The circular economy idea has existed for a long time. The challenge has always been how to put this idea into action within a complex global world.
We believe that what is preventing the inevitable shift from a linear to a circular economy is a lack of successful prototypes that demonstrate that a new and better way is possible.
In nature, a circular economy can only exist within a larger ecosystem of interdependence where many diverse organisms depend on each other to survive. The same is true in business.
There is a simple idea that we believe holds the key to fighting back against the most depressing issues of our time (e.g. climate change).
This idea is Circularity.
Linear (old way)
Circular (better way)
Our Theory of Change
The systemic problem we face is that sustainability doesn't feel relevant or accessible to the majority of people living across the UK.
Everyone is concerned about climate change and extreme weather but no one knows what to do about it. It all feels, well... too overwhelming, distant and complicated.
Circular UK focusses on prototyping and promoting practical and commercially viable sustainability solutions at a local scale.
Many of the technologies and business models that we need to create a more circular and sustainable world already exist. Now is the moment to stop talking about the change and start being and doing the change that we wish to see in the world.
The first step on this journey towards meaningful action is to go inwards and develop a deeper, more holistic understanding of the infinite possibilities and opportunities that the idea of circularity offers.
The second step is find others to work with who share your values and causes. That's why we focus on real estate and launch multi-use retail incubators.
The final step is to trust; in yourself, each other and maybe even the universe.
There are no straight lines. Only more circles and connections to be discovered.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
